Our Annual Member Meeting took place June 3 in Portland, OR as we reviewed grid modernization progress over the last year, our focus for the coming year, as well as organization business – and we announced winners of the 2025 Grid Innovator of the Year Awards.

The past year has been a rollercoaster for Grid Forward, its members and the broader community. From last year’s concerted effort to leverage federal programs, to the current re-calibration under a new administration, we’ve all be very busy charting the optimal way forward for grid modernization. At our Annual Member Meeting the Grid Forward team, partners and members shared a year’s worth of successes, surprises and new initiatives to advance the grid.

Our Annual Member Meeting is the time we announce the winners of the Grid Innovator of the Year Awards. Each year, these awards honor individuals and organizations for their exemplary roles in helping to lead the electric utility industry forward in grid modernization across the U.S. and Canada.
Utility category winner
Other finalists included Avista, Idaho Falls Power, and Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) in Ontario, Canada.
Industry category winner
The other finalists in this category were Anterix, IND Technology and Renew Home.
Individual category winner
The other finalists in this category were Mark Gabriel of United Power, Inc. and Patti Pope of Pacific Gas & Electric.
At our Annual Members Meeting the organization elected new members to our Board of Directors. We are very grateful to these industry leaders for their service to Grid Forward. We also thank the board members whose terms were extended, and those who have retired from the board.
